I started playing around with this chord progression and it sounds like something I've heard before. Been two weeks and it's driving me crazy. Any help?

Who gives a rats crap it's awesome the pedal bends are perfect, playing that guitar no one will link it to anything. G is great 4 string tuning you just proved it.

Thanks as always Nancy!

Twang, good points and I'm right there with you.  This was one of those things that came about organically and I was really digging it because it sounded so familiar.  I especially like the C major to C minor change.  I wasn't too concerned about it being original until I played it for someone and she said "I know that song.  What is it?"  I think the answer is probably "A bunch of songs" like you say.

Steal away.  I'd be interested to hear what you come up with.

If anybody's curious, here's the main progression as I see it: I'm in G (DGBD)

G Bm G7 C Cm G A7 D D7

PS to the previous post.

I did a gospel gig with a lady guitarist who's not real "church music oriented." After we played "Old Rugged Cross" for about 20 choruses, she looked over and said, "That's 'Silver Bells'--the Christmas song."

Good chord progressions get repeated over and over in all sorts of places and ways.

Write your own song to those changes. Chord progressions can't be copyrighted. Lyrics, melodies, and song titles, yes, but not chord sequences. Jazz Sax player Charlie Parker proved this by creating new melodies and titles for his favorite songs so he wouldn't have to pay royalties for improvising over the chord progressions. (For example, the tune "Cherokee" is recorded by Parker and Miles Davis as "Mohawk." They never play the melody of "Cherokee"--just the chords.)

Nice changes, by the way. Okay if I steal them and write something of my own?

Yep, that checks out Oily.  neaderpaul did a great version on the Dylan album if I recall.  I'm not sure that's what I was thinking, but its damn close.

Thanks UJ and wes.  Its a fun progression, I think I'll keep working on it and make it my own...

First off, I know that feeling.

Beautiful.    Nice git too. I would not have gotten it on my own, but agree with Ron - quite like that great song.   Not just like, quite like.   Lovely.

I know that song. It's called "Turtle Lullaby." ;-)

I do actually recognize the chord progression. Most of it sounds like it comes from "To Make You Feel My Love" by Bob Dylan.
