The Revelation of St. John (Original Song)

My attempt at writing a old gospel/folk song that might have been on Harry Smith's Anthology of American Folk Music. I love the imagery contained in Revelations, but I'm sorry I didn't get the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse in...Mind you, always time for more verses.

Played on my Cadburys tin guitar tuned gDG.

Lyrics:

Bare record of the mighty word,
Its prophesy shall soon be heard. x2
Angelic voices did proclaim,
Final Judgement was its name. x2

The Revelation of Saint John,
Chapter, verse and song.

The seventh seal will be undone,
The empty silence is begun. x2
Wormwood star from heavens fell,
Water spoiled the people yell. x2

The Revelation of Saint John,
Chapter, verse and song.

Reward shell be the tree of life,
An end to pain and earthly strife. x2
The city's gates will open to,
The righteous man to walk on through. x2

The Revelation of Saint John,
Chapter, verse and song.

Bare record of the mighty word,
Its prophesy shall soon be heard

Must be the same guitar, RTZ, I can't hear a Townes influence, but I'm flattered you do. Must be a the apocalyptic and symbolic lyrics.

I'm going to have a go at recording it this weekend, but as for a "whole arrangement" I'm not sure I've got it in me.

I hear some of the Townes stuff you did in this, might be the same guitar I don't know. Scary thing ,I read it and if Ididn't know I'd say it was a Townes song. Well done man  Hope to hear a whole arrangement.

John, Steve, Jamie & Keith - Thanks folks, glad you enjoyed my little apocalyptic number.

Thanks Vinyl, great song and great sounding guitar. Revelation is a tricky book to get your head round - (I don't think any scolar or theologian agree what all the symbolism means) - you couldn't get it all into one song

Excellent, Mr Vinyl. BTW: Don't worry about missing out the 4 horsemen of the Apocalypse; ma ex Mrs will have a word with the other three later on, and explain things for ya, ma mani!!       lol

Dug it-could really imagine handclaps in between each line you sung.

Cheers, Turtle - It's the imagery that fascinates me, and I'm pleased you found it gritty.
