I spent yesterday getting used to the slide I bought from Shane Speal - The Edge.

My Sawzall Box Resonator Guitar tuned open G (GDgbd) and my custom relic finish The Edge John Pearse guitar slide. The slide is meant to replicate the 1920s sound of a pocketknife used to play notes. The rattle and grind is part of the desired sound.

Yup. Worth the $12. I never tried an actual knife.

I bought one of those a couple of years back. Interesting little gadget. I kinda prefer an actual pocketknife.

Thanks Bruce and James.

Bruce, this thing takes some getting used to.  I've probably played 12 hours in the last two days and I'm now pretty comfortable with it.  I have to hold it between my middle and ring fingers.  I tried for a couple hours to do between my pinky and ring finger like the suggestions, but it doesn't want to sit as straight as I'd like and I can't manipulate it as easily as I can as shown in the video.

Sounds good, Eric! Is that type of slide easy to hold, or does some practice?

Thanks RTZ.

I had seen one of those things you have pictured below cluttering up a guitar body or two.  I just stack them up in the barn as I've not found a use for them yet.

Thanks Jim!  I have worn my index finger nail flat the last 2 days!  I have decided there is no way I can sell this guitar.  I'll have to make a twin if anyone approaches me to have one.  I'd do it on a commission basis.  I don't think I'll put one on the inventory rack.

Thanks pick and Nancy kat.  :)

The slide was all shiny when I got it, but that doesn't last long around me.  I take the shine right off anything new.

The tune is an adaptation from one my daughter taught me off her bass (she's 9).  It is a little Blues in G using G and C scale notes.  It took me a few hours to convert my what I would normally play with my fingers over to a slide technique, but it was a fun exercise.  It is much more fluid this way and I like how I can get this slide right into a single string to play the notes I want.
