I had one of those minor breakthroughs in 151 tuning when I realized I could play the melody to this song. The backup guitar is tuned CFA (513) and the lead is FCF (151)

I run into the wall on 3 string all the time and tend to grab a 4 string. Thanks to this site and player like you turtle I'm inspired to what can be done. Make more with less should be this sites motto.

Thanks y'all. Super funny RTZ.

Jim, that's the same conclusion I came to here.  Somewhere along the line I convinced myself 151 should only be for slide blues even though I have seen some real nice arrangements in 151.  Your Ashes to Ashes for example.  Joe Cribb does a great version of Nellie Kane in 151.  And young Casey Baron can do some incredible stuff that's not straight blues.

I've done a couple songs with a 513 and a 151 guitar, but this was the first time that the high tuned 151 got the lead. The a-ha moment was with the rhythm guitar holding down the chords, I could play around with the melody and throw in some of those fun things that 151 offers.  Just when I thought I was stuck in a rut, a whole new set of possibilities have opened up and that's a great feeling.

Gotta love it when that lightbulb shines! This sounds fantastic even though it's not just like Brian Wilson did. I'm thinking 151 tuning limitations are more in our mind than on the guitar and for the Neil Young song I'm working on (Only Love Can Break Your Heart) I'm discovering some cool Maj7 voicings that I wasn't sure if I could do on 151 tuning. Anyway, your tone on this is superb!
