Thanks pick. Just went out and measured, it's a 2" hole so that might work. I sure appreciate it!  I'll send my address.

cover  is 2 3/4   over all .     screw  holes  would  miss  ..  but  could adapt  with  hot   glue  or  struts  ..

Thanks pick. I think I used a 2 1/2" hole saw. I was gonna make a thin wooden cover but it sounds nice with the fixer hole open so an open cover might work.

how  big  is  the   hole  in  the  back  ?  i  may  have the  perfect  lil  speaker  cover  for  it

Sure looks good, Jim.  Nice work.   Nice woods!   Sometimes these builds fight us all the way.   Excellent job figuring out the problem and fixing it!
