Thanks Anders - I think the sound is more to do with Elmar's Flatpup than the build. Yeah, wires......and soldering irons....always spinning round on the bench and melting stuff.......grrrrr :-/

Thanks William and Pick. I've just figured out how to mount the pup on the curved violin using 4 little legs made of plastic tube with sets screws through them. A job for tomorrow...or Tuesday.

Crikey - thanks everyone. I'm really pleased with the way the Fiddlestick has turned out and, hopefully, I'll do a bit more stuff with it when it's finished.

Elmar, my understanding is that the higher the vol pot value, the less treble gets muted. So, a 500k is brighter than a 250k and a 1 Meg is pretty much like putting it straight into the jack. I understand what a tone capacitor does (allows treble to go to earth) but I'm not sure how the value of the tone pot changes things.

James - Thanks for the advice, grounding can be the source of many evils. The strings aren't grounded. They were for about 10 minutes but the grounding screw interfered with the fitment of the back, so it went in the bin. They may be grounded again next week. The flatpup is actually very quiet and the hiss is definitely the pedal. The hiss only starts when I connect the pedal and can be controlled using the pedal's master level. It's a 10-15 year old multi-effects thing, designed to make you sound like a bad metal band. I really should by a decent reverb/delay pedal.
