Thanks Wade. Yeah, I put a bass bar and soundpost in all of mine. Well, except for the gourd fiddle and the one made from a peppermint tin. The bass bar and soundpost do way more than just bracing the top, they distribute the sound somewhat evenly to the entire instrument. On this one I thinned the top too much  (I think) and some secondary overtones were coming from part of the top causing awful "wolf" tones. I made sound post adjustments and put a new brace in the top where the bad vibes were being produced and now it seems a lot better. Acoustics present a whole different bag of challenges from an electric instrument!

Another great one Jim! You mentioned having some challenges with your fiddle. Did it have anything to do with the bass bar and sound post? I built a beautiful cigar box fiddle, but sounds terrible without these two items - some strings are almost silent! ( I thought the top was thick enough and could get away without them) boy was I wrong!

Thanks Derek. I don't think you were around for the first posts about this fiddle several months ago. This one was giving me fits trying to figure out why a few notes sounded terrible. I re did it several times and I'm still tweaking it - it's almost where I want it now.
