Lyrics by Uncle John CBG, Guitar and Fretless Bass (no drums)

I'm sick and I'm broken- and trying to go home. (x2)

I'm a thousand miles from home. I don't want to die alone.

My daddy told me, “You reap what you sow. (x2)

But I didn't listen. Now I'm a sick and homeless hobo.

I'm a bad apple. Far from the tree. (x2)

I wasn't raised up to turn out this a' way....

I was raised up right, but it didn't sink in. (x2)

They raised me for Heaven, but I was bound for sin.

I shoulda gone home - a long time ago. (x2)

A thousand miles as the crow flies, but I'm no crow.

I'm sick and I'm broken- and trying to go home. (x2)

A thousand miles as the crow flies, but I'm no crow.

A thousand miles as the crow flies. I don't want to die alone.

Or still on the jail theme,

In the cell next door is bum called Carolina Wes.  (x2)                                                                     As far as hobos go, he's one of the best.

The guy that locked us up is mean Deputy Jim Morris. We were doing no harm and that fool wouldn't ignore us.

Two cells down is a dude named  Shane Speal.                                                                               He says he's a king some where and I think it's for real.

His cell mate is guy named Jamie Mac Blues.                                                                                He's got a bit tattoo that says 'Born to Lose'

They hauled a guy out tonight that the guys called Maddog,                                                            Put him in solitary on two week jog.

Okay,  I will try to quit.,

More verses.

I'm in county jail on a bullshit vagrancy charge.  (x2)                                                                       But tomorrow morning, I'll  be back at large.

My cell mate is huge red-neck named Roy.   (x2)                                                                            I'm sick and tired of being his boy-toy.

Well, maybe not that second verse.   Maybe:

I'm locked up in the county calaboose.  (x2)                                                                               Tomorrow morning they turn me loose.

Or,   'My cell mate is crazy dude called Bug.  (x2)                                                                                He ain't  a bad guy for a local thug.

My other cell mate is a cat called Downtown Vinnie. (x2)                                                               He's crazy as a loon and pretty skinny.

I will look forward to it
john I love your lyric skills
I wish I could crack them..
Vinnie writes some cool words too..
Always looking for new lyrics..
I like the challenge of a new tune..
I think it's reversed blues John
Starts with the 7th and goes down to the first..
Try reversing your normal sequence.

Thanks, Bug.  My memory on this has faded.  I think I could not do a song with it at the time and thought you could.   It's been a year or more...

This morning I listened and enjoyed.   I copied the lyrics, changed them up and have been doing the song - and liking it a lot!.   I don't know at the moment if I am using your melody or a simple old blues.  But I am planning a video with it soon.  A big thank you.

I like this a lot.  I think you better say you we co-wrote it, because you improved it greatly.
