I found this very simple circuit on Instructables and decided to give it a try. Basically a battery, 2 LEDs and a Transistor. Good times.

I wired in the guitar output to this circuit, but the output of the piezo pickups in the guitar weren't strong enough so I had to run it through an amp first. I would think a 386 circuit would work here.
