yeah Chris, video editing really pushes your computer...yeah I think it's amazing how you can do this with someone anywhere in the world!

@B - Superb, as always, coming from you. I think between that sound, the bedwarmer, and that hat, you tow have just created your very own CBG genre! (And to think we were here to witness its birth!) ;-)

@407 - Very nice performance. But question: is that a bell transformer you're using for the pickup? That's pretty amazing whatever it is. Care to furnish a few details on that?

Thanks Be ..... I new you could explain it

The hardest thing was trying to sync video mime to the music
With a very old and very slow computer.
And deciding which song take to run with.
But great fun !
The digital age has some uses!

elaboration on the collaboration, lol..now why has that been passed to me?? Now that's how a collaboration works!!

Seriously, having done this before with Penny (see our Code of the Cactus vid) and my cousin (see our Music in My Head vid) what I've found to be an easy way to share stuff is dropbox https://www.dropbox.com/ You each sign up to that then you can make a folder and share it.

What we did was, I did the rhythm by hitting the bedwarmer. I then looped that for 4or 5 mins, saved it as a wav file and put it in the dropbox for Chris. (I just copied and pasted it from my computer into the drop box folder, then when it had uploaded Chris could copy and paste it to his computer)

I then thought it was asking for aTHUMP THUMP sound so I added a track with me hitting a pile of books (then messing with the EQ)

So when Chris had those two, he did his bed warmer and vocal tracks and put them in the box for me. (It's easier for mixing if everything is done on a separate track so you can get the volume and panning right)

I then did my bed warmer and vocal tracks. We both had access to all the tracks to mess around with. I ended up mixing it as Chris was getting some weird hiss??

With the vid, drop box was also great as video files can be HUGE and I think you have a few gigabytes of space on dropbox (you can have even more if you pay, but the free amount is fine for doing this)

Chris put the vid together, so I put my video and photo files in the box for him, and after lots of messing around, computer crashes etc it was done!!....so, that's about it....oh plus countless emails back an forth bouncing around ideas and saying what we liked/didn't like.

I find you learn a lot doing a collaboration because the other person takes things to places you wouldn't have got to on your own.

Mark - I like your idea of doing a backing track and seeing what it sparks off!!

With drop box you can share a folder with lots of people, so you could download dropbox create a folder, and put your track in there. Anyone who wanted to join in, could send you their email address (which you need, to share a folder) They would then have access to it.

I've just had another idea. Someone could start a project by putting a basic beat into the box, then anyone else could grab that and do a track that went with the beat. They then put that in the box. Hopefully you might get quite a few tracks in there...then anyone could mix them together how they wanted. It would be interesting to see how differently things could turn out with the same tracks....

Anyway I there's a group on here for recording, so you could start something on there  : -) http://www.cigarboxnation.com/group/cbnationrecordingcollective

Oh and THANKS everyone for all your great comments!!!
