I was a hard core piezo guy. I like the old timey -relic - poor boy instrument look.

Gitty bass mag pups started to sway me. Cheap and good. That's what I like.

Then ED (Badfinger) sent me an Elmar flatpup. That thing is wonderful.

My DGB gits are all piezos. I started thinking about a mag pup in DGB. Maybe an Elmar or someone else's version of a flat pup.

Then I thought, huh. What about a Bass mag pup?

So, I tuned this hubcap build (normally, a GDg) with a bass mag pup to ADF#.

Then I really listened. Pretty cool and just right for some songs. But not the amped acoustic sound I am after.

you can get a good sound out of a piezo but it  that's work. easy to get a good sound with piezo rod then disk.. But you can get as good a sound as a real pickup.

Yup, the handling noise is my only real beef with piezos.  I like the sound of them most of the time, but I'm usually going for that amped acoustic sound like you are.  If I go directly into the computer, I can get pretty close to what I'm looking for.  Plus, my opinion is that a cbg shouldn't sound too good.

CRANK IT UP!!!

Hey, Turtle.  I am still with you in part on the good old piezos.  Mine DO sound good.  But I sometimes get extraneous noise - like just running my hand up and down the neck.   Some folks say you can't crank the piezos WAY up.  Mine do pretty well cranked.

Damn, that thing growls pretty good whatever the tuning.  I too am hanging tough on discs for looks and sound.  I think rods  are next for me, but I would like to hear someone put in a nice fishman acoustic guitar pickup in a cbg sometime to see what happens.

OOPS!!!   Clock is correctThere is no E# !   The open C tuning Clock was talking about is GCE.     I just tried it and it is one more trick for  my trick bag.

Have not tried it yet, Clock.   When I count on my fingers going from ADF#  down a full step would be GCE#.   If that sounds bad, will trey GCE.

GCE#? Are you sure about that? Shouldn't it be GCE? That's what I use. Either that, or G#C#F...

Love your hubcaps man....!

Bass pup is a goody.... especially with a fender mustang mini.amp!... yum yum...

( but I bought a vox :>(  but it's got a mic input :>)  )

can't beat magnets and wire coils.....rod piezos are good though...

Thanks guys.   I think I will keep this as my designated ADF# git (finger chording open D)  and will also try it tuned down to C (GCE#).

I have a pretty nice build ( a GDg with a 6 string mag pup) that I now plan on to restring for DGB.   Will lower the action a tad first.   It is sure good to have a bunch of gits in different tunings or with different sounds.

That was my micro cube on the center setting- no effects.   Pick, some day I need to try that Phrgian Kid style mounting.
