Here's the demo of the box fiddle that I struggled with to get a couple of notes to sound right. Angelina Baker is an old fiddle tune/song from the mid 1800'...

Thanks much Bug! Thanks for your help with the research. It's actually 300 or so years since Antonio Stradivarius and Guarneri perfected this stuff and some really fine makers in present time strive hard to duplicate what those guys did. I love taking a couple of my better sounding fiddles to actual luthiers and getting pointers but even more satisfying is their reaction to what they think might sound like crap actually being OK. One professional maker/repairer told me "this isn't too bad" with a surprised look on his face. That's as close to a compliment as I've ever gotten from one of these guys!

Angelina. I like that! In the movie when the fiddle player plays "Ruby With the Eyes That Sparkle" to his daughter (Renee Z) it's actually an old fiddle tune called "Shove That Pig's Foot Further in the Fire"  The author Charles Frazier did a lot of research on the music as well as the history.

100 years of fiddle making perfecting and you have just proved you can do it and less than half the time with a stick and a box... lol

It sound great JIm... (hmm now back to the concept of how a bell is made ;>) )

I might have to watch that movie again.   About the 7th time.   A good one I saw recently (minimal music) was the Homesman.   Good movie, better book.

Jim, maybe Angelina is the name for this fine fiddle.

Thanks Unc. Yup, I got the soundtrack CD for Cold Mountain so I could listen to the great music. I'm real happy with this fiddle since I worked out thos problems.

Oh, Jim.  That sounds great.   Love the sound and the singing and song.

Reminds me of the fiddling from the movie Cold Mountain.
