A tribute to our very own amazing Bemuzic! The idea for the song came after chatting to Be at Cambridge last August about her busking exploits, Be kindly agreed to contribute vocals and guitar to the song, many thanks Be!

A SONG FOR BE

I SAW YOU STANDING IN THE MAIN SQUARE
I MOVED IN CLOSE TO HEAR YOU PLAY
I PASSED A CROWD OF BUSY SHOPPERS
YOUR MUSIC TOOK MY BREATH AWAY.

YOU SAY YOU MEET THE STRANGEST PEOPLE
THEY COME AND STAND THERE HAPPILY
AMONGST THE CROWD OF BUSY SHOPPERS
I REALLY KNOW YOU CAN REACH ME.

IF YOU SEE ME IN THE MAIN SQUARE
COME IN CLOSE TO HEAR ME PLAY
DON'T MIND THE CROWD OF BUSY SHOPPERS
I'LL TRY AND TAKE YOUR BREATH AWAY.

I SAID I MEET THE STRANGEST PEOPLE
THEY COME AND STAND THERE LIKE THEY DO
AMONGST THE CROWD OF BUSY SHOPPERS
I REALLY HOPE I SING TO YOU.

I SAW YOU STANDING BY THE RIVER
I MOVED IN CLOSE TO HEAR YOU PLAY
I JOINED THE CROWD OF SILENT LISTENERS
YOUR MUSIC REALLY MADE MY DAY.

YOU SAY YOU MEET SO MANY PEOPLE
THEY COME AND STAND THERE HAPPILY
AMONGST THE CROWD OF SILENT LISTENERS
I FEEL YOU'RE SINGING JUST FOR ME.

IF YOU SEE ME BY THE RIVER
COME IN CLOSE TO HEAR ME PLAY
AND JOIN THE CROWD OF SILENT LISTENERS
I'LL REALLY TRY TO MAKE YOUR DAY.

I SAID I MEET SO MANY PEOPLE
THEY COME AND STAND THERE LIKE THEY DO
AMONGST THE CROWD OF SILENT LISTENERS
I REALLY HOPE I SING TO YOU.

LA LA LA LA LA LA LA LA...

SO IF I SEE YOU ON A CORNER
I'LL DROP A COIN AND SAY GOOD DAY
LIKE THOSE WHO LISTENED HERE BEFORE ME
WE HOPE YOU'LL ALWAYS COME AND PLAY.

Great song, Steve and Be - and a wonderful collaboration. Actually, I did see you standing in the main square (almost) and decided to look up 'cigar box guitar' on the Internet. Thought it might be interesting but didn't really expect it to turn into an addiction :-)

Many thanks everyone for your lovely comments!  Be is the star here -  it was a real pleasure making this song, Be worked hard on her contribution, she was a pleasure to work with and made it easy for me - i am so impressed that she regularly takes her musical skills out to the public, it takes a lot of courage to do that, special effects, canjo and all, and makes it look so easy!

@Brickdust Steve - i was going to do a song about you but "i saw you standing by your taxi" didn't really have the same ring to it...hope the guitar will do instead! (-;

@Nancy - if we're at Cambridge together on the same bill next year i shall certainly ask !

just got back from seeing The Smoke Fairies (check em out if you don't know them!) and saw this was on.

THANKS Steve. I was flattered that you'd written a song about me, and I enjoyed playing and singing on it. Love the tune : -) Well done with the vid too! And thanks everyone for the comments!
