Uncle J's last video was Goin' down the Road Feelin' Bad and that got us into a discussion about clawhammer style. Unc probably already knows most of this stuff but I figured I'd do this and maybe someone will be interested.

Thanks Cause. Yeah, in that clawhammer category there are several sub categories. Rythmic style, melodic style and Round Peak style are some of them. The individual note on the dit is part of those variations. I like a "ghost" dit lots of times where it's like you missed the strings on that strum. Lots of subtle things make an apparently simple thing much more complex and interesting!

AWESOME!!!!! YES!

I've also seen it for blue grass only hitting one note on the dit instead of a full strum. Like someone playing wild turkey or other old blue grass songs. Using hammer on and pull offs on the right hand to add more notes to the strum pattern.

There are a lot of vids on youtube from people who get the claw hammer style and Travis picking confused. Two totally different styles.

Thanks Andries. Good question about fingernails. Usually it's not too hard on bare fingers but when my fingernail wears down or I've hurt my finger in the shop I'll use a plastic fingerpick made for clawhammer.
