I read somewhere colours don't exist, it is just the speed the light is reflected to our eyes from different chemical surfaces....or something like that.. (-;

back to the sound...I was thinking. It all depends on how you define sound. If you have the narrow definition of what humans think of a sound, then I agree it would not exist without the organ of perception to experience it, but if you have a wider definition of sound as being as you described "energy waves in the air, then I think those waves would exist without anything to perceive them....

mmm applying the same logic to vision, does that mean if I am alone and close my eyes everything around me ceases to exist until I open them again?

To bemuzic. Yes, if you do not have an organ of perception, there is no sound reality. We experience reality through our 6 senses. eye, ear, nose, tonque, body, and mind. Remember the mind is an organ too. It takes in information from the 5 senses and creates thought. Sound is simply energy waves in the air. They do not make sound by themselves. You need something to hear them. The world is silent.

Keni, imagine someone in a forest and two trees fall down one after the other. In between the first and second tree falling the person goes deaf. Are you saying that the first tree would make a sound but the second wouldn't??

To answer your question:

For human reality to exist, there needs to be 3 requirements:

An organ of perception (ex: ear) object of perception (tree falling and making a sound), and consciousness.

Remove anyone and there is no (sound) reality.

So...no it does not make a sound.

(-: I was discussing with somebody in the week about Devon, he claimed it is England 50 years ago....when i retire i'll come down and buy that cottage, have the odd jam, discuss trees falling in hte forest...you're a lucky chap, though i think you know that already.. nice ta see yaa! (-;
