Sounds cool, but I think I'm going to leave it on craigslist for awhile, I could use the cash right now. Thanks for the offer though.

I have not seen any acoustics with an oak neck. Although I do like them on my CBG's I have used Maple, Walnut and Mahogany.... You might also consider Redwood for the top on my page there is a picture of an OM guitar that I used sinker redwood for the top. I bought it from Rick Micheletti =

Well you might try on Colonial tone woods... What are you looking for?

Hey Man that was me playing around in a friends shop. The wood is some kind of Myrtle from Oregon. It was really nice I was just setting the neck for him. He had several to get ready for a show and was teaching me the ins and outs... Fun day...

I am going home tomorrow finaly and will send some pictures of the cedar.
Basicaly just surface shipping cost and that will be cheap.
I would like a cigar box some time, i have no access up here so that is why my first was a jewelry box.
Quarter split not sawn, knot free with tight grain and most any size you desire.

Hi if you are still looking for a spruce guitar top. try these fellows. http://shop.ebay.ca/merchant/nicemaple Proper quarter sawn wood.
Also if anyone out east there wants western red cedar i live where it is abundant. Basically just shipping and a couple bucks for fuel to get it.

do you make a cone yourself? how does it work (amplifys the sound?)
At 7:31pm on February 19, 2009, jon-d said…
yeah i think i need to mess around a bit to stop that buzzing strings, no cone, its a lid from a cookie tin that i punched some holes in.

Thanks for the compliment ;^)) - Since the veneer has a paper backing you can use about any type of glue or adhesive that works with paper - I mention in the instructions it is always best to do some testing before attempting a final project - Dennis Brooker

its got a tinny ,buzzing string kind of sound, which is kind of crappy but in a good way. you really have to fight to get a good sound , but i think thats because i didnt put enough planning into it , im better at playing guitars than iam building them. but its all in fun. if you want ive got a video on myspace playing that resonator its at jon-d myspace.com.

D.B., I'm not sure if the Cable guy will use the guit or not. You never really know, but he and his people all seemed genuinely interested. So I'll remain hopeful and wait and see. It would awesome if I did see it turn up on stage or on television. I'll let you know if it happens.

Yes, Larry the Cable Guy was a great guy to talk too. Very down to earth and he sincerely appreciated the cigar box guitar. I heard he was still talking about his new guitar after the show.

No I am trying to figure out exactly how the cover and cone go together. Do you have any photos of how the assembly works?

Thanks

Howdy D.B.,
Thanks, I'm pretty happy with the banjo case. It aught to last, built like a tank. The sides are 1/4" X 6" red oak, with a strip of 3/4" X 1/2" flamed maple. The top and bottom are Luan door skins covered with Burlap coffee bags. I got the bags from a small local coffee shop. I glued a little cohiba box inside to store stuff in.
Thanks,Pat

Howdy DB,
Thanks. They say a picture is worth a thousand words, so here are a bunch of pictures strung together with a little music thrown in.

This is a three string resonator I built for Mr. Speal. It's basically the same design, except a Continental instead of Quarterman cone. It's the guitar I'm playing in the video on my page if you want to hear how it sounds. The five string also has a dual action truss rod.
Here's a link to some photos of the finished five string resonator.

Thanks again, any questions just ask away, Pat.
P.S. I was looking at your photos hand winding a pickup. You must have the patience of Job!
