thanks for stopping by my page and the great comments about the guitar i made for Norm glad you like them mate - feedback is always much appriciated :)
Hey John! I was leaving a comment on Keni Lee's page asking advice and I happen to see you'd asked him about doing reggae on a CBG. Aside from the blues Im a HUGE Reggae fan and I've been wondering the same thing ever since I picked up my CBG. I watched his devils tuning video and I'm gonna try out some reggae stuff tomorrow once I change my strings. Any particular reggae songs you been trying?

I play mainly acoustic on the streets, so the resonator is my weapon of choice combined with my big loud voice. On stage it is very challenging if you can't hear yourself through the monitors or there is no board man to take care of your sound. I often listen to a song passively without my guitar first and get the lyrics and basic rhythm down by tapping my foot. Then when I pick up the guitar, it is just a matter of finding what is inside my head. You will definitely improve if you keep digging in deeper ever time you arrange. Enjoy.
Hello John, Certainly any style of music is possible on CBG. It is just a matter of tuning the CBG to be applicable for your arrangement. In general I don't strum and play rhythm chords. This is why I presented the Devil tuning videos. Tuning the CBG to play a major triad (for example Open D Tuning ADf#) makes it possible for the CBG to function closer to a conventional guitar and offer a system of movable chords. Using a fake book that contains the chords and lyrics, it is relatively easy to substitute regular 6 string chords for 3 or 4 string CBG chords. Simply keep in mind, how you tune each string and their relativity to the other strings dictates how the CBG will function. This is why I keep talking about theory. It all starts with the set up of the instrument itself. Form follows Function. Although, experimenting and figuring out your own approach is definitely what it is all about too. Enjoy.
Thanks John...the knob placement can be changed...as I mentioned before. That is up to the potential new owner...customizing the cbg is relatively simple and I am more than happy to do this for he or she. So I am left puzzled...was your comment regarding the knobs an indication that you would, if the knobs were in different location, be interested in owning this cbg? Or were you simply stating you, as a cbg builder/player, would have placed them somewhere else? In any case, I sincerely appreciate your honesty and critique...it helps me build a better guitar in the future. Cheers
Reggae!! Dang UJ, THAT is my all time favorite music style! Never fails to make me feel better! Alas, I am much too white-bread caucasian to come anywhere near doing it justice,
Thanks for the compliment Uncle John...as for the knobs, I placed them forward a bit since the box is quite long, leaving plenty of room in middle line for strumming/picking. You said in your comment that they would be in your way...makes me wonder if you liked it enough to consider...? Well, knobs can always be relocated with decorative cover plate added to camoflage vacant holes...or add some brass sound holes, etc.
