Hello Wes & greetings from the big town of Easley!! Thank you so much for the warm welcome & the tips on getting around here on CBN! I look forward to talking and making some friends here. I am currently getting things rolling on my first build and I am stoked! I was at Haywood Mall this past weekend and found a cool box at the cigar shop & I have an old Strat neck that I plan to use. I will get some pictures up soon and show the work in progress.
Have a great week & keep in touch!
Cheers!

I realize now, thanks to you, that I came in on a private joke....just found it very distasteful...no matter whether it was a joke or not....dead wives....dead kids....just doesn't strike me as funny. Perhaps, since my husband has an incurable disease, it struck me as being a crass thing to say! Struck a nerve, so to speak, and I just found it offensive. When a person is offended by any comment, a cavalier attitude does nothing toward clearing up a misunderstanding. Shane says basically have a nice life, when someone says they are leaving his site!!!! I appreciate your effort in contacting me though...thanks so much!

Thank for the warm welcome Wes!
I'm working my way through the photo's, video's and advice, there are a lot of very talented people in here!
Quite a lot of the CBG builds and video performances I've seen are jaw-droppingly (is that a word?) awesome!
I'm hoping that some of the talent will rub off!
Thanks again,
Colin

Hey Wes, Thanks for the welcome, i've had a few looks around the site and find more each time. I've had a 3 string CBG for bout a year now, purchased from ebay, had to have one after hearing a guy play one at markets whilst on holidays in Queensland. I have a few boxes ready for my first build and a local guy who makes furniture has given me some Tasmanian Oak to use for necks. Thanks again for the welcome and i'll try to keep you posted on how the build goes....
....cheers......

Hey Wes, thanks for the welcome! Pfafftown is slightly north east of Winston Salem, kind of between King and W-S. I grew up in Westfield, outside of Danbury. Lived in NC all my life..well, except for when Uncle Sam sent me to the desert and a few other places...

Great Job with Sketchup, BTW. I use Sketchup and a special plugin for my CNC machine to design and radio control airplanes.

http://www.cigarboxnation.com/group/oldschool/forum/topics/how-to-make-a-cigar-box-violin

There's a link to the page. It's an article by P.M. Pennel in 1949 popular homecraft magazine. Been trying to find it on the web but it's not anywhere but here. It looks like a great first project for someone without amazing wood skills- plus I've never plyed a violin before.
Anyways thnks for getting back to me. Amorel

Thanks Wes, I have been searching here for about two weeks alredy. Must say im addicted already, love the site, and the dirty blues. Been pending approval for a minute so I went ahead and made my first build. Guess I will have to post some pics soon. I shared the build with the cigar shop owner i got the box from, he wants one to put on his shop wall, in return he said I can have all the free boxes I want. Woooo, what a score, so now I have 5 boxes, some cherry, ipe, purpleheart, jatuba, strings, nuts, tuners, ideas and plenty of tools. Cant wait to get some responces on my first.

Thanks- This is a pretty cool site. I'm in Calgary, Alberta. Play guitars and mandolins and stuff. I can't figure out how to download the plans for the 4 string broomstick violin- and only the first bit is posted on the site. If you have any tips, let me me know. Anyways lookin forward to making some cool stuff in the future,
Thanks- Amorel

Wes, thanks for the kind welcome. I am just getting started with the cbg, my Dad makes 'em and once I got to play one for a half hour or so I was hooked. I don't have a background in guitar, instead I play Irish fiddle and mandolin. I'm lookin' forward to learnin a lot and meetin' some new folks. Thanks again!

Wes, thank you for the welcome, greetings from Istachatta Florida. Started playing guitar at age 15 (a few other bad habits started that year, motorcycles and cigars). Have played off and on for the past 42 years. Found The Nation through Stan Bryars by way of his post on another forum. Stan is a great guy and with the parts I have ordered from Stan, plan to start my first build in the next few days. Future plans are to learn as much as I can and do more builds as well as learn to build amps.

Thanks to every member of the Nation for sharing your knowledge.

Thanks for the Welcome Wes! I've been a lurker here on the Nation for about a year and after a couple of builds with help from from this site (and your Neck drawings) it is now time to officially join this assume group of folks. Every build has been a learning experience and more importantly, I have learned more about playing and have become a better player in the last few months thank I have in the last 15 years.

Thanks to all at the Cigar Box Nation!

Thanks so much Wes! What an amazing site this is and what talented people. I look forward to creating some pieces worthy of being played for a crowd. For now I just want to have fun and learn!

Thanks Wes for the nice welcome. I am just now learning about Cigar Box Guitars but I intend to keep going till I can learn enough to make myself a presentable guitar. I don't play yet but intend to learn that too as I go along. My son does play and has offered to help me learn chords and technique. I read your blog about people with bad attitudes coming on here and making trouble. I have been a member of a couple other websites and have had to quit one of them because of all the negitive garbage that some of the members were putting out. It had become a mutual admiration society for just a few of the members. Too Bad! Thanks again, Bob H.
