hi ju ju is there or have you got a way to reinforce a 1937 birch harmony for a reso cone has 13 in. lower bout minimal braceing early years of braceing here martin had it down harmony was a century behind its a great sounding ax i dont want to make it ugly overdoing it any ideas? anyway its nice to shoot you a few words say hi to bb redshaw see ya Slim
Hey Juju, your quite welcome brother. I was wanting to send somethin' your way and when it came time to pack up HB's git the only thing i could come up with was what i sent cha'. I was thinking you could use the Wenge for bobin material and the white pearloid you can use for cladding a headstock or making a pickgaurd for a plank or somethin'. I know you'll put it to good use, I wanted to send more but really had to be mindful of shipping weight. Anyways, I hope all is well and production on those 4 inch cones is continuing and you sell the reso soon. I know I need to sell some gits so I can get some proper parts for some of the over the top designs i have cooking up. Anyways, cheers bro and i'll talk to ya soon.
Thanks for responding to my question. I did smear some flux on the leads before trying to solder....I also pre-tinned the thicker wires and, yes, the solder did stick just fine. So I must not have gotten all the coating off....crap!
Another question for you. Have you ever tried making a flat pickup like the ones Elmar makes? They are so cool. Also, I presume it is absolutely necessary to have metal of some sort going through the center of the coil. Am I correct in this assumption?
Yo JUJU, Any tips on how to go about soldering leads to those skinny little pickup wires? I think I wrecked the first one I made trying to get the two together. What I did was; dragged the end four inches of each end through some 320 grit sandpaper to get the coating off, then drilled two small holes (near the edge) of my thin oak bobbin, then I wound the two fine wires through the holes and around the edge about six times. I then tried to solder a thicker copper wire lead to each of them but couldn't get the solder to stick. What the!!!!!!!!!!!
Hopefully you will share some more of your pickup making secrets with me! Thanks in advance!
Hey JUJU, I hope you can help me, I am trying to build a diddley bow like yours and cant seem to get the sound right, My major problem is string length, string diameter and scale length. Can you please help me. I keep building wall hangers, and want something I can play. I just finished one, (fuente box) on my page, but am having a problem with sound. My scale is 30". I appreciate any help you can give. Thank you, Steve Dyer
Thanks for checking out my latest little vid. Had a lot of fun playing in my mates garden yesterday afternoon - lots of appreciation from the ladies, which can't be bad...
