thanks paul fer the nice comment.its taking longer to build them now i must be getting older and more experienced yep. about once every ten years or so my birthday falls on thanksgiving day, just so happens its on thanksgiving day this year. i,ll be 730 days minus 50 years old. so with the frets added and the mag pups added it has a whole different aspect to look forward too in the playing department. thanks again fer the nice comments paul what you say means a lot to me.

Thanks for the comment Paul. Be careful with that boiling water though - best get an older person to help you!

Hey, Paul! That li'l tin is from the same series as an earlier Hershey-tar I did. I meant to collect them all, I've got two but not that one! Thanks for the spot, I'm watching it.

good question. you can take a reading a few ways, scrape the wire with a razor blade, touch it with a hot solder iron, torch it with a lighter. all of these take practice, the wire breaks very easy. once you have a small portion of bare wire exposed, you can take an ohm reading. after you do this, recoat it with something thin, fingernail polish, lacqure spray or anything that dries fast, then keep on winding. it takes a few to get good at this, but its a good start. as far as counting your winds? that comes later when one starts to do alot of them... i hope this helps, feel free to ask anythig. GOOD LUCK.

thanks for askin Paul. the first time winding is kind of a big guess. take notes as you go. i started with 3000 winds then took an ohm reading, then 4000 then 5000 and so on. this is a good way to start. search pickup winding on the net and you will learn what you need to know... here are some more sites for parts. guitarpartsusa.com and stewmac.com. good luck Paul!

Paul,
I saw you were asking where to get magnets for pickups. Here's the ones I used: http://www.kjmagnetics.com/proddetail.asp?prod=D2A

Stinks that the shipping is more than the magnets, but it's still pretty cheap. I'm very satisfied with the sound I get out of them. I'd also suggest getting the regular wire from Stewart Macdonald. In the long run it's alot cheaper then getting it from Radioshack, and it's the correct gauge. Check out my post in the "Low budget land" group to see a detailed description of how I made it. Good luck!

Sorry bout the finger , and surprized that you say you don't play!? One of the joys of making your own instrument is that no one can say you are playing it wrong! At least that's my excuse! :-)

Hey Paul... that Partagas box where the headstock is carved is either pine, or it could be fir. It was a 2x2 stud I found at Lowe's... not sure what they use for studs, but I sorted through a whole stack of 'em to find one that had just enough decent material in it. My buddy thinks it's pine, but it sure didn't smell like pine when I was cutting it, so... who knows? :-) Thanks for your comments man!

Our dogs do the same thing, one when she leaves, and the other when I do. Nice to be missed I guess.
