These are larger than my regular portable bongos, 8 10, 12, 14", and with mallets they sound like timbales. I usually use 1/2' no void ply with 1/8" plywood tops. I use small hinges to achieve a collapse the base. Will try and add a short video clip soon.

I never did yet get the hang of that frailing thing -- and annoyingly (but not really) my teenage daughter picked it up in about a weekend of goofing around on her banjo-uke. So I'll have to give it another go!

I am thinking of building a 4-string banjo with re-entrant tuning. What tuning would be good for a novice player who wants to jam in A, D and G?
