John,  thanks for the friend request.  Sure, I would be happy to have you for a nation friend.  I looked at your page and photos and admired your builds.  In particular, the light and strong interior bracing.

Thanks for the comment John. I have that neck and the box that goes with it almost done, but.... my house sold over the weekend so now i need to be packing. It might be a week or two before i have the time to finish it. The box is a nice Las Cabrillas, Balboa-Maduro. Have a great weekend and have fun building something...

Hi John - Thanks for leaving your comment. As far as I know the Widowmaker doesn't have any Eucalyptus in it. It was made by Anthony (Banjo Ant) here on CBN and I think it was given the name 'Widowmaker' due to the coffin shaped box. I shall definitely avoid sitting under a Eucalyptus if I'm ever lucky enough to visit Australia. Cheers.

Thanks for the kind words about my guitars. I think most of us on here are still learning new things with every instrument we build and happy to share thoughts and inspiration. Speaking of which, your first guitar looks great and has some inspired features.

Hello John,
Of course, feel free to share the information. Not sure if I have ever heard of flat wound classical guitar strings? I though flat wound were steel strings. Mainly used on arch top guitars by Jazz players. I would suggest going with a standard string. You know, most of the builders here, don't build acoustically. They build with the clear intention that the pick up will be amplifing the sound electrically. Regarding this, you will come across some abstract ideas that absolutely make no sense from a sound development point of view. I could be wrong, but I don't think there will be a lot of interest here for a nylon strung instrument. I would encourage you to do some research into gourd banjos. They got this fretless playing down cold. Enjoy.

My pleasure. You know, additionally before metal frets and steel strings became the standard, they would tie frets on the neck using thick gut too. The frets were movable, so something like a dulcimer, they could create different diatonic scales. If you google: tying on frets, you will find a lot of information. Tyed on frets are common to middle eastern instruments even today. Enjoy.

Hello John, I was reading your group about playing fretless. I am mostly a fretted instrument player myself, but I don't know if anyone brought this up. In most cases unfretted instruments have gut or nylon strings. Early gourd banjos for example. Nylon tunes at a much lower tension than steel, making it easier to fret. This might be a consideration. Additionally you could build a lighter instrument like a classical guitar to get a better vibrational response. Good Luck with your research. Enjoy.
