starting to grasp how scale, fret layout, bridge-nut layout all relate which is where i was lacking before...just followed the plans i had without any understanding of how to rescale to maintain the look...i'm sure i will bump my head against something else i dont understand in no time so thanks for your offer for help
Thanks Dan, your beginner vid's are giving me some much needed direction for my first cbg build.. I've done one strum stick that turned out ok but i made some mistakes that i wasnt sure how to correct untill finding this site.
Thank you for your comments. I was thinking, using this same tuning ADf# and adding a high drone string tuned to D would make a nice little banjo. (dADf#). You could use the same movable chord method from CD 6. Using those miniature rail road spikes pounded in the fingerboard, you could change the tuning of the drone string up to e. Just like you guys, I love thius stuff and enjoy how it just gets more and more interesting as we explore and experiment. Enjoy.
Thanks Dan. I much appreciate your help with Wounded Warriors. I shipped a 4 string ammo box guitar and a 2 string fretless in the same box by UPS today. Will post a photo.
Yes, I knew it was you that emailed me but at this stage my search in Australia has found no CBG's under $400 from quality makers. There is one on ebay Australia for $180 but is no where near the quality of your own or similar people in the US. A couple of US websites offer international postage at $65 US which is cheaper here because the aussie dollar is worth $1.04 American at the moment.
I saw some reasonable 3 string fretted CBG's with quality gear between $100 - $150 plus postage on top of this. They were absolutely equal to any Aussie CBG I saw and certainly cheaper. I am not looking for the cheapest 3 string CBG Dan, just something that you think a beginner would have fun with to learn with and is reasonably priced compared to top of the range. Thanks for your assistance and rapt to be a member of cigar box nation.
Thanks Dan, beginner guitarist, blown away by the CBG sound and hope to purchase one in the US. Here in Australia they are extremely expensive and even with postage a good quality CBG would be cheaper in US than over here. Any suggestions, I have been recommended to get a fretted CBG. Cheers Alan
Thanks Dan, I watched your video, very informative. Like the NYPD/Miami combo..whats the connection? Retired and moved to FLA??!!
I have seen some of Crows videos. I will take a look at the link you sent. I am also planning on checking w/my local music store to see if they have any spares laying around. Guitar Center in NJ(nearby) wanted $40 for six..um..no thanks. Wanna keep it on the cheap and see how she plays.
Thanks Dan, It was measured and figured to be 7lbs, 4oz. My largest to date. I am new to the CBG thing. Happened on it by accident and I have picked up some materials to start building my own. Any help would be great. Just in the planning stages and trying to decide what sorta eye bolt tuner set up to go with. I want to keep it raw, un-refined..like me!
Dan, my son and I got rid of the buzz by adding small eye bolts to the headstock, increasing the angle/pressure to the nut. My son-in-law added a rubber strap due to the fact that he had already cut his strings and didn't want to get new ones. I also added a small metal plate to the tail where I thread my strings. All is good.

Dan.
I will give the ammo box git and another nice 3 string and a deuce to the wounded warriors project. Tell if you want them and give me an address.

The Guinness box was a christmas gift containing a bottle of the black stuff ,a glass and a pair of cufflinks. The box is metal.
The tailpiece is home made from brass sheet with brass wire "strings" silver soldered to the back (see photo)
The under saddle p'up is homemade from PVDF coax with a pre-amp and just a volume control (see photo's)
