Thanks for looking at my photos, J.P. You have a lot of original creativity in your builds. Some nice necks and sound holes. I like the can reso. Some cool old boxes.
I think i relied too much on that belt sander, says a lot about my skill working with wood.
The sound is too metallic kind of( really nice acoustically though) , i think the pick up placement wasnt the best ill go in and put something between them the the bridge. I think ill boost the sound quality by building a 3rd of 4th degree low pass filter and pre amp.
Pickups are in parallel, the volume pot is really easy. I guess the electronics side comes more naturally to me, build quality and craftsmanship is were i lack.
Thanks for having a look, when my girlfriend gets back from vacation ill post a video of her playing.
Thanks for the welcome, as for the bridge its actually a dram handle with 2 peizos sitting right underneath. I can control the height of the bridge as well through the screws.
J.P., I'm glad to have you for a nation friend. I looked through your photos and remember being impressed with the construction, especially on that tuna can reso.
From what you have said i cant see why the solder wont stick - is the solder your using Fluxed ? some solders need Flux - are you able to solder the ends of the thicker wires with the solder you are using ?
things to check
all the enamel coat is removed from the ends of the winding wire
use either a fluxed solder or a solder and Flux
i also use 320 grit to remove the enamel from the winding wire but i use brass eyelets to solder my wires into - but i have tried the method you speak of in the past and i had no problems - fender have done it that way for years so it's a tried and tested method
well thats about all i can think of right now hope that helps
From what you have explained your doing the right thing - is the solder your using Fluxed ? some solders require flux - just trying to think out loud what could be stopping the solder joining the wires - dose the solder stick to the wires your trying to join to the Pickup ?
the only thing i do different to your method is i use brass eyelets to solder my wires into but i have tried your method before and it worked just fine - the only other thing i can think of is your not cleaning all the enamel coating off the thin winding wire - i also use finishing Paper 320 grit to clean the enamel off the winding wire so everything your doing is right
i'd look towards the solder or cleaning the wires a bit more
hey Jp, thank you for your kind words! That's what it's about - getting inspired and sharing ideas with fine bunch of people :-) Like your twisted box layout, fine work man

“You have to be the king of "F holes"!” Can I actually claim that title? ; )
Thanks for all of the wonderful comments! No luthier school on my resume.
The f-holes are drawn, traced with a knife, cut out with a rotary tool, and finished with files.

Just finished the build, photos are up.
Was admiring a few of your pictures, they look great.
G'day J.P,

This is just a pic of testing the pickups
