I'm addicted to tobacco.  Helplessly and hopelessly addicted.  No end in sight and I'm not even ashamed.

A morning coffee run with the wife was slyly detoured to the local tobacconist and, oh gee, I just happened to have my 2nd guitar and Diddley Bow with me.  How did they get in the car?

As I was stacking up boxes to buy from the cart in front of the store, my wife says "Really?  10 boxes today?"  I settled for 6.  I'm trying to cut down.  Really, I quit at the end of every day.

Stepping inside the shop with boxes and instruments in hand, I was greeted by a smiling shop employee.  I set down my new acquisitions and a shop customer asked me to play a little bit on the guitar.  A little slow blues and some Bad To The Bone got the expected result and inquiries about construction, a little history, etc.  What an awesome start to a sunny Friday morning.

As planned, I offered my Diddley Bow for the shop to keep and display.  I was asked to sign the back and leave my contact info for the shop owner.  I'm not really interested in building many guitars, but I would like to have some return so I can buy tuning machines and strings without dipping into what my wife lets me keep from the paycheck.

So, yeah, back to the point.  I'm addicted.  Right now, I have no less than 20 cigar boxes of various sizes and construction.  I've built two guitars and two Diddley bows with another guitar in progress.  I play my 3-string guitar intermittently throughout the mornings and evenings when I'm home, even strumming a little while cooking the family dinner.  I keep a browser tab open to CBN almost all day at the office.  News of Seasick Steve on XM Underground Garage makes me want to pull the car over and listen.  I'm helplessly and hopelessly addicted.

There oughta be a warning posted on the boxes.

Nice, Chris.  Got the wife in on the act.

Here's my new low.  I got a screwy idea in my head and bought a cheapy bird house from a craft store to use on a Diddley Bow project called Rockin' Robin.  I'm getting sick.  Must be the tobacco fumes.

I'm so hooked I don't just check out any shop that might have a cigar box, I've started looking lustfully at boxes on the TV. There's one featured in Goldfinger early on, and last night I noticed myself distracted by the cigar box on Dr Joel Fleischman's desk in episode 2 of Northern Exposure. It was a nice blue one, paper hinged lid, would make a lovely..... anyway back to the point. It just gets worse. Anything made of wood, anywhere and I'm thinking hmm.. that would be good for......

On the plus side, my wife has started looking out for anything too, she selected a wooden crate instead of a cardboard one the other day in case I could do something with it.... even toyed with keeping a camembert box... ;)

I thought I had a problem, then I read Roosterman's comment.

Thanks Roosterman, now I feel like a slacker.   : )

Cheers Roosterman.  I just realized I'm on #6 after 6 months.  So I'm not a math major, but. . 0 um, carry the 4, . . . that's 60 in 5 years.  My wife, 2 young daughters and my business keep me at a somewhat reasonable pace.

Welcome to your uncurable insatiable sickness my friend :o)

Whether you want to or not, sometime in the future you will be on this forum writing 'I just finished my 60th CBG'!

Me? 130+ guitars in the last 2 years, plus the usual diddlies, stompers, basses, drum machines and other musical nonsense.

Almost 60 guitars in 1 1/2 years?  Yeah, you got a problem.  :)

Final building inspection on my workshop is today.  It's a 24' x 32' barn and executive dog house.  I don't want to build 60 guitars 5 years, but I will enjoy making a few here and there for myself and some Diddley Bows for sale.

I've spent so much time carving the neck for guitar #6 that I couldn't imagine selling anything with more than 2 strings.  At the rate of my building vs box purchasing, I'm going to have that barn full of 'em in no time.

I've been addicted for about a year and a half.  In that time I have managed to build 55 guitars, 1 bass, and 4 fiddles.  And I am working on cbg builds numbers 56, 57, 58, and 59.

Working on a 4 string Punch with a maple neck. Frettless and fun! I am also going to wind a pickup for my 2 string diddley bow.

I took a quick look at your pics on my phone. Nice stuff. I'll have to look again on Monday from my computer.

Hahahaha thats good man cuz neither am I. What are you working on currently? I just finished my #2 it was a double broomstick style neck CBG 2 stringer, I'm really pleased with it. I think i'm gonna tackle making a fretted cbg next but I gotta find the right box first.

Chris,

Good to have you in the group, brother. Pull up a chair and sit a spell. I don't know what you're expecting, but I'm not a hugger.
