My first shot at recording with GarageBand

I've just been messing around with GarageBand on my computer...I haven't a clue what I'm doing...and an hour's fiddling about has produced about a minute's recorded stuff..I hesitate to call it music...but here it is...my first effort...Aint%20right.mp3

Vocals and guitar recorded direct to the computer using the inbuilt mic. in my Mac.

Well...I'm used to the  VDU meters on olde-worlde hands-on mixing desks....GarageBand doesn't seem to have that..or at least I haven't found that feature yet!

...your recording levels ... like a bank account, don't let 'em go into the "Red" and you'll be fine! (-:

Levels?  I've not got a clue, sorry.

I'd fiddled about with the software before, but really didnt get anywhere, so I decided to try and put something together. My technique was one of blindly clicking and dragging until something seemed to happen, then replaying, doing some more clicking & dragging..over and over and over again. I managed to record some guitar and vocals by just playing in front of the computer and clicking some buttons..I'd no idea if the mic was on, or how to adjust levels or anything. I couldn't be bothered to find some headphones so I just muted the stuff I'd recorded and played to the metronome click...don't ask me how I got the click track or muted the tracks..I just clicked things pretty much randomly until something seemed to work.

I'm going to have another go at it - I've no idea how old my version of GarageBand is and and I don't care...I reckon new versions will just have more features and be more complicated and less user friendly, that how computers seem to work, even Macs.

I went at it determined to get something recorded, no matter that is was a short piece...and now at least I've got something I can work on and extend .

Yep I got the Garage band on the ipad. I am very clueless to music and all but am even more clueless about that app. Once in awhile it records what I fiddle around with and then it doesn't and then it clears it self.  I see a dummies book purchase coming up... I see there is a new version wonder if that is better...
