When this thing actually worked , I wondered how Geppetto felt when he built Pinocchio .
Motor is off my brass tumbler , had the "wheels" from a bunch I bought for wood curtainrod ends ,
shaft is a 3/8 oak dowel . All I bought was the 4 nylon sleeves & 4 wire clamps , about a buck fifty ,total . Had the long stainless 1/4" bolt already , all wood was shop leftovers .
Wax potter for the PU's is a Potpourri pot and a meat thermometer to watch the temp (140-150°) .

in the "credit where credit is due" column , I remembered where I got the calculator idea :

On the chuck is a small piece of wood with double sided tape on. This holds the bobbin. Also on the edge of this is a magnet - a spare polepiece. On the post underneath is a reed switch. I wired this into the equals button on the calculator. Type in 1 + = and then it counts each revolution as I wind.

didn't have a reed switch , so I fashioned the "E-string contactor "

Thanks , Paul . Mulled it over a good while .

The motor is 1550 , Skees , and I figured the pulley ratio to gimme about 5:1 on advice from juju , so about 5 revs per second on the actual wind . Seems like I got 3000 in 11 minutes , the "cheatsheet" is out in the shop . 8^D

Look pretty ingenious to me. I wish I I was innovative like you. Great job.

Hi, nice winder and pickups. How many rpm's do you run it at? I started with a calculator counter too, but it didn't work above 200 rpm's or so, so I switched to a better counter. I run mine around 900 rpm's.
