I guess this site is all about ideas in the head Uncle John. I still like the sound of my tag sale dulcimer. I'll be opening a friends dulcimer with an access door and adding a Ted Crocker piezo and fixing a crack in her bottom with a brace and cleats later this afternoon. ...

Thanks, Dave.   The neck was further beaten and simple fret 'markers' were added at the 3rd, 5th, 7th, 10th and 12th.   It has a clear coat of poly drying right now.  I will string it up tomorrow and likely take photos.

I got a great little mountain dulcimer with a cardboard box body that sounded great. I'll confess that i changed the box for a wood one of my own making. But a $3 dulcimer ain't too bad... Love the box and neck. Looks like an oldie.

If you hadn't told us, I would have thought this was the top. I like this side better.
I have a bunch of old fiber boxes, but haven't tried to make anything out of them. I didn't think they would sound good.

There are snobs in this hobby? I thought one of the guiding principles was "no rules". That is what makes this hobby  SO MUCH FUN! P.S. this is cool side in my opinion. good choice.

totally like the back,  i mean if a box says with extra firm head ?  at our age thats a good sign  haah, yea h totally diggin the back unc.  if it aint wood it aint good ??    well someone who would make a statement like that should really learn the proverb.  better to keep your mouth shut and be thought of a fool, than to open it and confirm everyones suspiscions .   i like fiber board boxes too. ,  heck i tried making a git out of a cerial box,  it didnt work to good but im not done experimentin.  ROCK ON  tio !

Thanks guys.  You have discriminating taste.   This side wins.   Will put it together today.   Got the snow shoveled and now have to do my share of the house cleaning.  Then it's a cup of Ten High bourbon and diet Pepsi and shop time.
