The entire “sandwich” that will be the butt end of the guitar, buried under the neck, with the guitar bottom panel, as viewed from the back, with the bottom panel on the right. Once the back is cut out, all this will get mounted to it.

They’re the regular gitty sealed gear guitar tuning heads. One of these days I need to scan a bunch of old 35mm pics, including four boats, one RC boat, and a dozen or so RC airplanes.

perfect. are they bass tuning machines? i assume they have to be. many times having the "details worked out" ahead of time also doesn't work for me, so i'll take a bunch off wood to the tablesaw and cut and fit, then go for the glue. i'd love to see a photo of a boat you've built. i live for being on the water, have spent countless hours on the river in my 14 ft aluminum boat, but want to build one from wood. have built many in my head, also around 2 am.

It began with a desire to do a headless electric acoustic. I play at home for myself, unplugged mostly, but like having the mag pickup. I didn’t want a hardtail bridge, and didn’t want to cobble together straight line tuners. So I thought about ways to use standard tuning heads, yet do a hollow body. I saw the solid body travel guitar with a roller tailpiece, and figured I could use v pulley rollers to direct the strings about any way I wanted. Then yes, one night about three AM I had a flash vision of the tuning heads in back, string bobbin part facing the bottom, with access windows partitioned off from the acoustic chamber. I did a really rough sketch, and ordered all the stuff the next day. I honestly didn’t have all the details worked out until I started building it. It’s how I’ve always designed and built things. A proof of concept that was prototyped as I went. I’ve built boats that way, etc.

How many sleepless nights did it take to "dream" this up? Very nice.

I wasn't sure where you were going with this when I saw the first few pics but now I see it coming together. This is a really neat design.
