Actually, today I did borrow from this and Pick's reminder about bobby pins.   I retrofitted bobby pin frets to a GDG I like.  Not as purty as yours, brdfrd.  And I did make a gluey mess of my fingers.   But they work just great~!

Hep me!  Hep me!   My right index and naughty fingers are super-glued to the fret board.  Please Advise.

You turds.  I am including you, Matthew.  I need to quit building due to too many gits on hand.  And then you show me something cool I have not done.

Huh.  I have an excellent fretless that I could do something like this to.  That would not really be building.   Hmm.  Hey, wait a minute.  What's the comment on nylon strings, Matthew?  I would use metal strings.

I find the tooth picks to work really well and it does not take that long to do it. It is also really inexpensive. Especially when you know you plan to use nylon strings.

Ah, see--I started with my home made miter box and saw, then used a square needle file with a point down to notch them, and finally dropped the square tooth pick in. I used a sharp chisel to nip the ends, and 100 grit paper over an oak block to chamfer the edges.

The filing the edges on the fret wire is what kills me--it's like 36 opportunities to scre up the edge of the fret board.

:) Yeah, but it's a matter of getting them on straight, rounding them off etc.

Whereas with fret wire you can just use a mitre box for the slots, pop em in and file 'em off. Maybe I'm just getting quicker in general...

Really? I found it way easier and faster than fret wire. I figured they're just going to get used for light sabers at some point, so no need to go to the expense and trouble.
