It's a neck through design. With combined 6 string tension at pitch being 150lbs or more, the recycled tp

from an old Epiphone guitar was exerting too much tension on the thin top at the wrap around and distorting

the hinge lid.   It was an afterthought because I didn't extend the endpiece out of the box like some people

have done, so it was my solution to a problem I created in making it.  These are lessons learned and my

next one, which will be a spanish cedar design from actual boards (not using a actual CB) will be better

from the lessons learned in my first build.

I came across the same issue with mine (see photo on my page).  I have been meaning to take the box apart and glue in a block as you have done but I haven't wanted to take my strings off as I'm having too much fun playing it.  I notice that you have cut a hole in the back of your box .  I attached my tailpiece to the outside of the box, basically using the box as a spacer and using dirty great long screws into the back of the jarrah neck.
