trying to figure out if I should move the fret board down a bit or keep it there?

Do you mean further down towards the end of the box or sink it down into the lid of the box? Either way, it's better as it is. The height will give you good string clearance and allow for a higher bridge, and you wouldn't want the fretboard to come any further onto the box as the high frets would be hard to access...
