how to work out the size you need to make your template bigger than the actual cut size , this example shows a 14mm Cutter and 20mm Guide bush - again here's how it's worked out - 20mm minus 14mm = 6mm divide by 2 = 3mm , so you make your template / jig 3mm bigger on all sides
Here's another example of the same guidbush and cutter , but this is worked out from the centre point of the router cutter
20mm divide by two = 10mm , 14mm divide by two = 7mm , 10mm minus 7mm = 3mm

Hi Hogs , Thanks bro , as it happens i did teach two wippersnappers in one of my previous joinery jobs , took them from knowing nothing to NVQ level 3 in two years , both are now finishing joiners and earn more money than me - they should be paying me Royalties ! lol!

i do like to share what i can - nothing worse than wanting to try something and not knowing how to go about it - that's why i add stuff like this to help others out
thanks bro most kind of you

Hi Don , most 1/4" Collet Routers accept a Guide bush , what Router do you have ? , if it's very small like a dremel you won't have enough plunge depth on the router to do a neck pocket and a dremel aint really up for this sort of job !
