Neck history:
A. originally part of a bad playing Synsonics Jr electric.

B. Terrible playing six string w gas can body.

C. Good playing and sounding 3 string fretless.

I think the problems I had with this git as a fretted six had to do with the short scale (19 inch / 49cm) and radiused fretboard and nut.

I think that if I had used the electric style tail piece and did enough tries and trial and error -- getting each string the same distance above the radiused fretboard, it would have been better, but still not good.

As a fretless 3, it sounds quite good acoustic, fair with the piezo and it plays decent. I like it. It will be a shop beater, at least for a while.

Bonus, it stands up on its own!

I,ve loved C all along. Started with Carter family back in the 60's. And then there's accordions they favor C.

Thanks, Jock and Dave.   Dave it's less common for me to use, but I like that key as well.

CGC is a nice tuning. Good to have a guit in C. I tune one of my cellos in C. That's what real cellos are tuned to: CGDA.

3 strings works for Seasick Steve!

Glad it worked out for you - yep it's a gas!!!

Maybe so, Dave.  I wish now that I had tried that.  As a fretless 3, I ended up with CGC with strings that would usually have been GDG.  It all worked out..

Nice Uncle. I have an idea why it sounded bad. These short scale guitars need a higher tuning. About 3 whole notes above the E scale. I've found an A tuning works great. My friend Dennis Hansen clued me into this when he made a very short scale cutie and tuned the high E up to A. I've tried it on a few of my shorties. Works good.

Ha !  Thanks Gary and AGP.  It worked out for the best.   I wanted a 6 for a buddy to try - he's a good six string  player.   One I already had and never took out to play is better than the gas can could have been with such a short scale neck.   And I like it as a 3.  I will keep it a while then likely gift it to someone.

Good recovery!  It's probably more a factor of my own personal limitations, but 6 strings always seem to be 2 to 5 too many!  ;-)  I've limited myself to 1 or 3 stringers so far, although I could possibly see a 4-stringer somewhere down the road.  And it's good to see the equation that you used to come up with this, rather than AGP's on your prior post!  (Not knocking our good buddy, Albert; but oftentimes less is more!)

Thanks, guys.   I at first wanted it to be a six for  a friend.  I have a better CBG 6 he can play and this one makes a good 3.
