A new box given to me for my next build. Nice cedar material, labels are in good shape and factory markings are clear. It will be my first 6 string build.

That's how I found the crack in the bottom, it just didn't have the same richness as the top when I tapped it so I looked real close and found the hairline crack. Truckers hammer their tires and listen for indicators low air pressure and belt seperation. Only stands to reason that acoustics can save you from buying a piece of crap box.

Ok, how many others tap the top of boxes to get a sampling of what a box could sound like? Being a drummer, I've known other drummers to tap bare unfinished shells to get a sense of tone. Does that hold true to cigar boxes?

Can you post a shot of the inside?

Yes it is nice, the bottom has a length wise crack in the middle but not irrepairible at all. I just know it will sound nice, it resonates well when you tap the top with your fingers.

That's got a good looking box, that lid is quarter sawn so it should be strong enough with bracing. It should just ring when it's done.
