Hi Ted!

Fantastic site btw. People on her are always wiling to help and are just great to talk to! Explanation is as follows... When I made my 1st one with the art work on it (see other pics) I was surfing the net and discovered that Bo Diddley had a guitar the same style as mine. I was blown away as I had no idea what he played only listened to his music. I then also found that Grestch had mad a guitar for him in a "mini" version. So with an impending surgery and know I was going to have time off from work I started making mine. The neck came from a "first act" guitar one from wal-mart the box was just stuff I had lying around with the exception of the sound board. I wanted 1/8" material and didn’t have any so a trip to good will yielded a spice rack for $3.99 then just took my time glued every thing up installing braces to the top and back. Then painting the thing was a terrible endeavor it has 22 coats of paint on it I tried to clear cot it but the paint bubbled and crackled. So this caused another 10 coats of paint. Now wanting it to be electric and acoustic with the flip of a switch. I could have just done it with jacks and ect but decided to incorporate everything inside. I found the article on "Make" Cracker Jack amp. And used the scamatic from that with some adjustments. I used a pezzo buzzer for the input added a led light and an on/off switch. And the knobs control gain and volume same as an amp. I then positioned everything saving the buzzer for last. I turned it on and played with locations to eliminate the ever so popular squeal. Also switching speakers out 4ohm 8ohm and different brands as well until I came up with a good sounding Box. Now it sounds great!!! The only problem at the moment is it is not as loud as I want it to be. This is due to the speaker position and no sound hole for the music to escape. I plan on relocating the speaker and drilling a hole pattern to allow the music to better escape. I want the hole pattern to be eye appealing and placement again will be an issue with the "squeal" but this should allow the guitar to have a more dramatic sound. Not that it is bad now... I just like most people want it LOUDER.. Would be happy to share any information. And will re-post a pic once I get the speaker re-positioned and the holes drilled. Now after my surgery it is so light weight and easy to play. My next project is a bass for a friend in Ohio. He wants it fretted so I need to try to find a fret scale for a bass... (Any ides) I want to make it like 3/4 scale cigar box style. After that I think I am going to make a "RAT" cigar box looked at some pics from the group and just looks like alot of fun to do!!! Going to have to start selling some though getting to many LOL either that or make a rack.... hummm rack sounds better LOL.. Hope you have a great day!!! And thanks for the complement. Some of the ones you have made just astonish me you have a true gift my friend!!!

Best wishes
Rick Black
