Might not meet a strict definition of a cigar box instrument. But considering how it was constructed, to me it is pretty close. All of the work was done using hand tools, except a battery powered drill to cut a few holes. The top and bottom are 1/8" birch plywood from a local craft store. The sides are 1.5"x1/4" poplar from a big box hardware store. The fingerboard is a strip of wenge. The fret markers are 6mm abalone. It has two pickups. A four pole, single coil pickup and a piezo.

You sold me on this idea. Were the string sizes 11, 22 & 42? Sorry, I didn't write it down. Did the box require any additional bracing during construction? I might continue on with my cigar box utilization for at least one build. I haven't really thought it through yet. I'll be in touch.

I hope to get a video up eventually.
I wasn't really thinking about stereo. This was my first attempt at using a coil pickup. I've put a piezo in most of my other builds, so I added one to this build as a backup in case I didn't get the coil pickup to work well.

??? I didn't know there were strict cigar boxes. ; )

This is an excellent example of a cigar box instrument. It's both hand made and functional. Hope to hear a vid soon! I notice you have two 1/4 output jacks. Is this meant to be a stereo instrument?

Very nice dulcimer. I like the dark over lite contrast.
