My original plan was an Andy Mackie style but the sides broke so I changed the plan to this shape.

That's basically the idea. My wife wants to learn ukulele and she will be away for a couple months at school so I'm making this for her to practice on while she's gone. It will have a piezo and jack just for fun but it's not made for remotely serious playing. Originally this was to be a CBU but all the boxes I have seemed too big or too small for a soprano; really I wanted an excuse to experiment.

Hi again, Wormil:

The reason I suggest a deeper sound box is that I now built 6 "paddle-box" guitars using a variety of sound box depths, and have decided 2.5 cm (1") deep boxes don't sound as well as say 3 or 4 cm deep boxes. Yours looks to be about 1" deep, so I don't think it'll sound a "rich" as a deeper sound box should. However, for a light, portable "practice" instrument, it should do fine. And you can always add a pickup, amp and effect boxes later should you be disappointed.

Hi Wormil,

I like your guitar's body shape. Fairly unique, simple design, easy construction. It should work pretty well.

Maybe I'll give this design idea a try, but maybe with wider side boards for a deeper sound box. That would require a heel on the neck notched to accept the wider side pieces. Will have to go through my "lumber pile" and see what fits.

When you get it finished, why not post photos of its construction and finished result on Home Made Resonator Boxes 101, v.2.0? Build notes would be nice too.

Good luck with your project.

-Rand.
