Thnx & Yes you can, use a 1K Linear pot? Looking from the back of the pot - lug 3 to pin 1 & lugs 1&2 to pin 8?

This is the most clear drawing of an LM386 amp I have seen. You have given me the tools I need to get started on my first amp. This cleared up a lot of doubt. One question. Can I add a potentiometer across pins 1 and 8 and if so, which one and do I have to alter it?

Thank you very much Brian! I'll be trying your others as well.
