I haven`t made one of these in a while, got an order from a customer who`s getting a lowebro made by Old Lowe. Lowe has the very first one I made years ago.

The customer who ordered the thumb slide didn`t like the way I carved it. So I started another one, showed him the progress pic and he luv`s it already.

Thanks for the video link, Randy.  Definitely worth a few thousand words.

http://www.cigarboxnation.com/video/reso-1    Here`s Lowe using his thumb slide I made him many years ago.

So the thumb slide is kind of being used like a noter on a mountain dulcimer (not being familiar with lap guitar playing).

Yup.  Randy the detail and scales are amazing.  It is so scary real that I don't like it but still admire it.

Awesome work Randy.

That's kind of the same way I am surmising, Rand.   A couple of things lately have made me want to build a Lowe Bow.   Too cold in the shop for now.

It`s for lap steel playing, Old Lowe got me into making these originally back in the day.

Hi, Uncle John.

Maybe (my best guess) is that LoweBow players wrap their thumb around the neck to "fret" (with the slide) the bass string while playing the treble string with a more traditional pinky or ring finger slide. I don't have access to You-Tube in China, so I can't verify it easily, but I've seen videos of Russian balalaika players fret with thumb from the other side of the neck. If I'm wrong, I'd like to be corrected. Why the thumb slide?

-Rand.
