Matt's first CBG

Here are some "in progress" pictures of my first attempt at a CBG build. My intention is an electrified 3-stringer. The box has warped since I got it. I'm going to screw the sucker down once I've got everything set, so hopefully it won't give me any trouble. I have a single-coil pup that I'll wire up, but there's lots to do before I get to that. I doubled up on the backbone since carving out the recess for that pup will just about go through the first layer. The neck is poplar and all cut with hand tools so far. The neck radius is done just with an exacto blade, file and sand paper. I still have all my fingers so that's good. Can't see much detail in the photos, but it's got a nice feel, even if it isn't the prettiest. Lots of fun so far!

Thanks, Jon.  My original intention was to glue two wedges into the corners of the bottom of the box and then put some flush-mount screws (maybe with some grommets) through the top of the lid.  I hadn't thought of your small plate idea.  I definitely want to be able to open it back up for adjustments and things.  Thanks for the tips!

You're off to a great start!  I've had a couple of warped box tops too, and have worked them a couple different ways.  First, is gluing the sucker down - I wouldn't recommend it. Can't get back inside to adjust neck angle or fix the electronics that way.  Second is gluing a block to the inside of the box and then screwing the lid into it. The third was making a small plate on the side of the box, clamping it down temporarily, and screwing into the side so you have a screw in both the lid and the base of the box.  I'm sure there are a handful of other ways to figure this out too, but don't let a warped box slow you down!
