These are my first attempts at cigar box instruments. They were all made the first 2 weeks of July, mainly during the wee hours of the night while the kids were sleeping. I made them for my two kids and myself. There is a mandolin size for my daughter, a mandola size for my son, and a guitar size for me.
I started with directions from the Make Mag website, but quickly modified them after finding other plans out there. I kept the basic measurements and the eyebolt tuners, I am going to flip those over because I keep breaking strings. They all have been routed out to allow for the top to vibrate better and a lot of routing was done to get everything shaped just right. Ny guitar was the first to be completed and so it was the guinea pig. I modified a lot on the second and third instruments.

All of the necks are 1' thick (no information I saw said nominal or actual size, so I went with actual, turns out I am wrong). If I ever build more, I will keep the thickness because it allows for routing and laminating for a finger board to make it nicer and stronger. All of the fingerboards are make on top of an oak neck.

All of the nuts and bridges are a hard plastic and hand made. I also had extra knobs that I turned a few years ago for an electric guitar.

Now I need to figure out how to play them!!
