AGP #523 – “Clean Machine”
3 String Fretless Guitar
Scale : 648mm / 25½ inches
Strings : .046NW / .030NW / .021NW /
Tuned: G D g
A bit of a change from my usual Recycled Timber Builds, this one is Hardware Store Purchased Timber from a couple of years back, must have been On Special.
The Box Body is 12mm Radiata Pine Lining Boards, and the Neck is 42mm x 19mm Radiata Pine, all Timber is coated with a Golden Teak Stain, and finished with 3 coats of my Sam Maloof Poly/Oil Mix and 1 Coat of Paste Wax.
This Build Originally had a 7.4 Chrome Humbucker Ghosted under a Pomade Tin Lid, and despite doing a very similar Build a few years back, which worked fine, this one Squealed and Squawked so much, I had to modify it to its present state.
A 5.7k Teisco Type Clip On Single Coil Gold Foil Pickup is wired through 500k Vol & Tone Pots to the Output Jack. :-)

Thanks BQ", my first suspicions were the Metal Covered Pup interacting with the Tin Lid, you would think I would know better, after several unsuccessful attempts at Ghosting Humbuckers under Tin Number Plates etc over the years, I'm pretty sure the Humbucker I Ghosted in Build #311 was like the one in this Pic, I did try the same type in #523, no feedback noises, but it did sound very Tinny, so I opted for the Unghosted Single Coil instead :-)

Covering a metal covered pickup with more metal will give unwanted eddy currents? I would’ve taken the cover off or used pick guard material to ghost under. The extra metal traps the magnetic current from spreading outward, sending it back at itself, creating a loop? Wax would do those cheap pups some good too?

"Thanks A.D.", Yep!, sometimes things don't go quite as planned, but there's nearly always a solution to most problems, and fortunately I didn't have to dig too deep into my Wallett, the Hardware Store Pine only cost me $8.16AUD ;-D

"Thanks UJ", the Round Soundhole was the result of the failed Ghosted Pomade Tin effort, and the two side Soundholes are one my Faves, and Yes!, a change of Pups cured the Squealy Squawks Problem, was originally going to use a Dark Oak Type Stain, but went with a lighter one to highlight the Pyrography Border, I've foud that I get my best Pics when its overcast, or the Sun has just down, or before it just comes up, and find my nostalgic old Australian Navy Flag suits the Pic of the Git better than the dark painted bench I use.  :-)

"Yes BQ", Horrible Feedback Noises when using the Distorted Amp Settings, and a very Tinny Unpleasant Sound when using the Clean Amp Settings, done a similar Ghosted Humbucker under a Pomade Tin Lid Build some time back, with no such problems. :-)

I like the sound hole and pickup and the wood tone too.  You do a great  job on your photography and using the flags.  Sounds like you got the squeals and squawks worked out?

Squealed & squawked? As in feedback?
