AGP #519 – “Duane”
3 String Fretless Hofner Bass Style Guitar
Scale : 622.3mm / 24½ inches
Strings : .056NW / .038NW / .028NW /
Tuned: E B e
The Body is 2 pieces of recycled 19mm thick solid Radiata Pine, with a 7mm piece of Hardwood Ply sandwiched between them, the Neck is Laminated Offcuts, all Timber was treated with a Golden Teak Stain, then 3 coats of brush on Blonde Shellac.
A Pair of Fender P Bass Pickups are wired through 250k Vol & Tone Pots to the Output Jack.
As the name probably suggests the idea behind this Build, was to try and get a “Duane Eddyish” sound, hence the heavy Strings and Scale Length, along with a suitable Twangy Style setting on my 100W Boss Katana Artist Amplifier, one’s never going to get it perfect with a 3 String CBG Type Git, but I’m reasonably happy with the result, and will try and get a sound sample done soon. :-)

"Doug", at no time did I ever think, that if and when you get around to doing a Beatle Bass Build, it would be anything other than a 2 String Chugger ;-D

"BQ", its as cheap as chips down here as well, but I very seldom buy it, because most the Pine I use is from recycled gifted throw away pieces of furniture etc. :-)

"UJ", go ahead and dirty it up a bit, haven't seen any new builds from you for a while, the weathers a bit different down here in my part of the Planet at the moment, has been varying between very hot, very humid, mild, and rainy, my sheds are now clean and tidy, but have a lot of scrap wood to burn, and a few rubbish bins to fill with stuff I've been hanging onto for years. :-D

Beatle Bass madness! I’m inspired to make a Chugger version Alan. I just have to get 40+ Chugger CBG kits done first.

They call it radiata pine here too, in fact radiata pine moulding is dirt cheap in all the big box stores?

My little shed is all clean and neat.  Makes me not want to get it dirty!  Plus it is kind of cold here.

"Thanks UJ", Yup!, been a bit quiet on the CBG Building side of things lately, and even more quiet on Video Sound Samples, but I'm still alive and kickin', this build was finished just before Xmas 2023, and am currently trying to clean up, and get my Work Shed and Timber Storage Shed in order, before I start any builds in 2024, but there will be more Builds and Vids to come in the future, as you are probably aware, things have been pretty quiet on our beloved CBN Site, apart from a few stalwarts like, Poorness, A. D.  and Doug & The Slingers. Hoping to see a bit more action in 2024 :-)

PS. "Doug Thorsvik", her's another couple of Hofner Type Builds I've done, but forgot about until now :-)
