AGP #311 - “King Brown” - (3 String Guitar)
Scale : 648mm / 25½inches - Tuning : G / D / g /
Strings : .045NW / .030NW / .021NW /
This build is a perfect example of someone doing something who doesn’t profess to know a lot about Electronics, the idea was, to do a build with a Vol, Tone & a Distortion Knob, going through a 3 way switch to an optional External Jack or an optional Onboard 9v Battery Powered 2.5W Amp, and strangely enough it all seems to work! :-), the only downside at the moment is the 2 X 5-watt 8-ohms TV Speakers I used work, but crackle and fart and are very low in volume :-(, will order a Gitty 3-inch 4-watt 8-ohm Amp Speaker to see if that remedies the problem, if not the Amp will come out and a few mods made, probably add a Bridge Pup.
Having said all that! I’m pretty happy with the look and the good acoustic sound of the (nearly!) finished build at the moment, the Box is 6mm Marine Grade Hardwood Ply, the Neck is Meranti, the Fretboard & Headstock Wings are Forest Red Gum and a 7.8k Humbucker situated underneath the ”King Brown Premium Pomade Tin” (didn’t have a “Dapper Dan Tin”) supplies the Noise, was tossing up about what to do with the finish on the Box & Neck, leave it natural or stain it, but I kept hearing one of those little voices that seems to come from ones work bench every now and then!, it was the Propane Gas Bottle saying use me!-use me! :-D
PS: Waiting for a delivery of Black Chicken Knobs :-)

"Thanks Pick", I did remember your advice from a while back about distance between Pup and Speakers, Thank You!, but still have a few little bugs to iron out :-D
Good stuff . onboard amp guits are alot of fun , you did right by getting those speakers as far away from the pup as you can , it reduces the chance of feedback issues , which ironically can be added fun playing with feedback when running to an amp with onboard amp as a boost . fun fun fun .. ;-)
Thanks for the kind comments 'UJ', and Yup!, both the build and the builder do a fair bit of Cracklin' & Fartin', and Yes! a big "Oh Brother Fan", up there with my all time favourite Movies and Cd's, can't remember how many times I've watched he Film and Played the Soundtrack, but! it's a lot (and there will be more) :-D
"Thanks StorminSteve" Yep!, I'm pretty happy with the look of this one, the on board stuff was just something I had to get out of my system, I think there are a lot of different ways to do an on board Amp build, but being a renowned "Tight Arse", I tried the cheapest way approach, which wasn't really all that cheap, costing more than 3 times more for parts etc., than my usual builds :-)
"Thanks Jerry", I do have a mixed assortment of different speakers mainly sourced, very cheaply from charity shops, will have a go at testing a few of them, despite there size not being recommended for a 2.5w Amp :-)
Crackle and fart? Are you sure it is the guitar? That is a total beauty in design and execution. Really a winner. I hope you get the speakers sounding better. I think from your comments that you are an Oh Brother fan.
looking good.,.,nice details.,..,old car speakers work well.,.,,.
