Used this Diddley Bow build as a learning experience for my first attempt using one of my home grown Kettle Gourds (the smallest one), after the relatively easy job of cutting the gourd in two with a Japanese Pull Saw, “Mr (AGP) Impatience” decided the easiest way to sand the cut surfaces flat and even would be with the Belt Sander, after catching on the sander it promptly snapped across the narrow waist, first lesson learned “Be Patient”.
So glued it together and proceeded using patience, the neck is recycled curtain rod, the top is 3mm pine ply, the pickup is a Wall Wart conversion, and after all is said and done; it sounds pretty darn good!, with a 3 string currently under construction.

Thanks Greg, still have 4 large Kettle gourds drying out, and just about to plant some Long Handle Dipper seedlings, hope they are a success, could be some interesting builds if so!

Great Gourd Guitty!
The wall wart pick up is too cool. Nice job!!
I like working with gourds, too.
I was lucky enough to have a local produce stand owner give me a bunch. I usually can get two out of each gourd... I have to start growing them like you.

Thanks Uncle John, no Piano in this one, 'Lol', the next one has an Ebony Piano Key used for the Nut and Bridge.

Thanks Rand, Just the Wall Wart conversion magnetic pup on this one, the other half I'm working on at the moment, a 3 string, has an under saddle Rod Piezo fitted, also have 4 other larger Gourds, but still drying at this point in time.

Thanks Maddog,  I have found you need a COOL! head working with the Gourds, they do seem a bit fragile at times.

Now that's just COOL! Great Job!!!

Piezo Pickup, too?!

Nice instrument. I like the natural look and sound of a gourd instrument. I've been meaning to do a gourd instrument for some time now. I even have a big gourd I been saving for it. Guess I need to just get off my lazy duff and do it. Thanks for the inspiration.

A    G   P   !   I saw that gourd back go by on the main page and did not even think of you.  I can usually recognize your fine stuff.  What part of the piano was that gourd?   Only the finest materials too.  Nothing has better acoustic sound than a vintage curtain rod.

Gourds?   Curtains?   Too easy and Pick has already started....
