Great idea...this one I made has an old phone mic cartridge in it. Made it out of PVC pieces. I still need to add a volume pot.

I'll keep an eye out for old phones. I think the sound of this one is not bad but it's hard to tell when you are playing at the same time. I've also got to work on a decal for it so picture this. Krazy Kaatz [ my name] with a harmonica underneath and then under that Lubricate your soul, all with curved writing.

Awesome idea Barry!!!!

I built a couple of harp mics using old telephone receivers, they are kinda awkward if not cut down, but awesome tone. If you can get your hands on an "old" handset, the ear piece receiver can be used as a passive mic, I bet it would work great in that metal can.
