AGP #313 - “Ned”

Strings : .046NW / .030NW / .020NW /
Tuning: G / D / g /
Every Aussie CBG Builder has to have at least one “Ned Kelly” build in his collection, and this in mine, which had been on my bucket list of builds for years.
The Hardwood Timber used is all from a recycled garden sleeper a neighbour threw out, pretty sure it’s Eucalyptus cloeziana, commonly called Gympie Messmate, I usually coat this type of timber with 50/50 Linseed Oil & Turps, but would have darken it too much, it needed something light too enhance it a bit, so came up the idea to give it a spray with WD40 which had the desired effect :-)
The Metal Box Back is Dumpster salvaged Galvanized Mini Orb Roofing and the Headstock Plate & Tailpiece is the same stuff, but flattened out by hammer, the Output Jack Plate is a piece of Galvanized roof strapping brace, all metal was torched with fire and buffed with a wire brush attached to a high speed drill.
Originally had a Humbucker directly under the Tin Sign which screamed and shrieked like a Banshee, so was replaced by a 4.8k Single Coil Pup, meant cutting a hole in the Tin, something I was trying to avoid, but the result was a resounding success :-D

"Thanks Maddog", Ned was definitely asking for a Relic Like appearance, and I'm very happy with the final look of the wood that I used, sourced from a "Council Kerbside Pickup Day" a little while back, originally pushed over my front fence to be used as firewood for my Pizza Oven, but decided to water blast to see what the result was ---->
