Pups will work through wood etc. You can hide one under your soundboard to about 2-3 cm. Of course the further away from the strings they get the quieter they become (the strings vibrate at the edges of the magnetic field).
I wouldn't think of putting the pup on the soundboard because it would affect the way the acoustic sound of the soundboard works. It's a but like putting your finger on the skin of a drum when you hit it.
If it needs to be flat then a regular one under the soundboard might work just as well. Of course because it's hidden then it probably doesn't look as cool.
I'll be having a stall selling my Cigar Box Guitars at the Crazy Craft's Market held at the MECA in Swindon Sat 9th April from 11 till 5 all indoors ...
Lucky me, just joined 'The Brits are Coming' to boast about my good luck. I've just bought 3 lengths of white oak, enough to make 5 necks, or only £7. Lucky or what, a good timber company.
I guess a few of you will have seen this already but just in case anyone hasn't I thought I'd post the link. An interesting take on New Order's Blue Monday (with a diddlybow in a cameo role)...

I splurged and got a dremel type tool today with an extender hand type tube thing that attaches to it that comes with so many bits that I have no idea about. I'm sure I won't use 1/4 of them but my next build requires a bit of precision and I guess this will be the tool for the job.
Thanks for the input guys. I will let you know how it all goes in my next blog thingy.
I agree with Richey, keep the money and save up for a router or bandsaw instead, far more useful
My brother just bought one of these and looks really good.

Cheers guys.
Got my dermal type tool from B&Q McAlister about £20. Keep a look out Aldi and Lidl often do them.
