"Just a quick note to anyone in the sarf east of England........Sweeps Festival this year, May 4, 5, and 6, in Rochester. Good ale, good music, and me doing some cbg building again. Be good to see you there.
"I've built a one string out of an old Oxo tin. It's got a single Piezo inside. Feedback is a bit of a problem but once it's set up it sounds great - very growly considering it's just a tin with a stick in it."
"Hey Paul, that's bloody awesome fella. I've ben building for about three years and I can't play a thing - so you're already streets ahead of me! Good to have you on board mate.
Be good to see you at Boxstock in October to see how…"
"Anybody out there manage to get tickets for Wilko Johnson's farewell gigs in London? They're like bloody hens teeth and as per usual the touts are having a field day...Grrrr!
"Ants?!! Boiling?!! Bleaching?!! Christ, you lot have got far too much time on your hands! I'm with Roosterman on this - I take the lazy (easy and less stinky) option of Ebay. However, I admire your dedication to the 'hand built' ethos."
"hi Malcolm, i just seen you live in the Medway area. which town?

"So true Mark. I've had the honour of meeting him a few times and he really is a great character......what you see is what you get with Wilko. Nothing rock 'n' roll or starry about him, just pure Essex R&B. The word legend is…"
"Just heard the terrible news about one of the greatest guitarists ever the come out of the UK - the legendary Wilko Johnson. The following is a statement from his manager, Robert Hoy.
"I am very sad to announce that Wilko has recently been…"
"Sometimes I think Smojo speaks a different language to me. "Put your cap between hot and ground"? "Experiment with different values"?.........sounds a bit like witchcraft to me. Just plug it in and turn it up to eleven, if the…"
hi Malcolm, i just seen you live in the Medway area. which town?
I recently joined the growing CBG family.I've completed 2 three string model builds 1 of witch i just sold. my problem now, is i need to learn how to play! ive managed to learn 1 rift and one song from watching others play on YouTube without ever playing a guitar before. what i really want though, is to sit down with someone, so i can ask quesions, get tips etc. unfortunatly all the instructors ive contacted either dont play slide, never heard of CBG's or only want to teach classical style. Do you know of anyone living in the Kent area, England (Sevenoaks) who plays/owns a CBG who may be able to help? Thanks a lot ...... Regards David
hi Malcolm, good to see you're attending 'sweeps '. hope it's a big hit .i was born and raised in Rochester and have family there , i'll send them along, i'd come but it's over 250 mls , anyway, welcome to the nation and hgmc ---have fun!!
mmm yeah a lot of time can go by watching stuff on on Youtube!! Re the playing I found I could get to play some simple Blues that I loved the sound of with MUCH less effort than on a"normal" guitar. With it tuned to an open tuning, like G,D,G and using a slide its very easy!!
Hi Malcolm, thanks for the comments. I'm very new to the scene so have not yet signed up for the Boxfest but its on my radar. The mic is very simple to build, I've found that the little stubby Heineken cans are best as they are quite firm and therefore don't require any strengthening. Ordinary tins are easy too. I cut out the top and ground it down to a nice smooth opening with a dremmell then drilled a 10mm hole in the bottom for the jack. You need to use the ear piece from the phone NOT the bit you speak into. I knows its backwards but trust me. Solder to the jack to the phone speaker. Get a sponge / piece of foam and cut it circular to match the cans circumference. Then cut a slit into the foam and slip the ear piece in and PVA it closed. PVA the foam sides and slip into the can, position the foam, clean off any excess and leave upside down to dry. Plug it in and then get wailing, your done!
